Shipped from New Zealand, Bowron SheepSkin Throw rugs have for over 110 years been a leading manufacturer of fine, genuine sheepskin rugs. Bowron Company selects lambs from the finest flocks of sheep stations in the Australian outback. The high country runs and the lush green pastoral farms of New Zealand. Bowron operates tanneries in New Zealand and Australia, which are conveniently placed in the midst of prime sheep farming areas, ensuring a plentiful source of high quality raw material.
Every Bowron Sheepskin Throw Rug is the perfect result of the same methods pioneered in the 1880's by the Bowron brothers from Yorkshire. Their unique 42 step tanning method has been constantly refined over the past 100 years. The raw skins are still expertly trimmed, machined and hand washed before the tanning commences. The tanned fleece is dried, combed by machine then by hand and finally polished to enhance the natural luster of the Sheep wool. Only then is the Bowron symbol of excellence attached to the Sheepskin Rug.
Your carefully selected Bowron Sheepskin Rug may have been tightly packaged for the journey home and so the wool may appear flattened. Wool fibers are very resilient and will bounce back to their original springy appearance. A vigorous shake will help restore the soft, fluffy appearance of the sheepskin wool. Any fold marks from packaging will disappear once the sheepskin has been removed from the package for several days.
Should you wish to store your sheepskin rug at any time, place it in a cool airy place avoiding direct sunlight. Packaging in plastic bags for an extended period of time is not recommended as the Sheepskin fibers will not breathe and condensation may occur in warm conditions. Washing Machine or hand wash your Bowron sheepskin rug in warm water using a mild liquid detergent. Spin to remove excess water.
Dry your sheepskin rug flat or on a line and stretch to shape while damp. Keep away from direct sunlight and artificial heat. Do not tumble dry your sheepskin rug. Take care not to place the sheepskin rug on a radiator, steam pipe or in front of a fan heater as this may damage the sheepskin. Do not iron or bleach the sheepskin rug.
After washing single or double (dry clean larger sizes), the wool may revert to its natural curly state. You can help restore the fluffy appearance by brushing the wool while it is wet and again when it is dry. A wire brush or comb is suitable.
